KW-Spread is a plug-in for Modeler of LightWave3D.
It is used mainly to generate morph targets to help texture hair objects, but can also be used for any instance where a UV texture work around is needed.
The plug in works by spreading or flattening an applicable shape while maintaining the original object's structure. It changes neither the structure nor the point order of the object, so you can make a morph target directly from the KW-Spread object.
Objects applicable to use with KW-Spread must be constructed of plane polygons which are composed of quadrilateral polygons arranged in lattices.
.
The hair object above has been flattened in the figure below. It was built by strips of plate polygons.
You can only flatten objects that are composed of plate quadrilateral polygons arranged in lattices.
Above was made by attaching a hair texture on the previous object and morphing to the hair object.
Example of Applicable Objects
Objects structured as above are valid shaped that can be flattened.
Below is the result of using the plug in. They are now uniformly flat objects that still retain the correct point order. KW-Spread can be applied to any quad based object who's points have been manipulated in all 3 axis as long as no points have been merged or deleted.

Examples of Non Applicable Objects
KW-Spread will not accept solids or non-quadrilateral polygons. You also can not apply it to an object having an un-lattice like structure. The object that is above right is not a valid object because it has depth.
The outputs of flattening are shown below.
As you can see the results would be unusable, sorry for the poor results ;-)
When you run KW-Spread you will see the dialog box below. A continuous surface is referred to as a 'group'.
![]()
Axis
Specify the axis along which output objects are put.
Spread Type
To specify the type of flattening, choose 'Spherical' for spherical objects and 'Planer' for plane.
Put in order
Select the way to set the vertical position of an output object.
Under Allocate it with origin at the bottom of a group. Upper Allocate it with origin at the top of a group. Botom Allocate it with its bottom at the bottom of a group. Top Allocate it with its top at the top of a group. Average Allocate it with its center at the center of the points of a group.
Distance between groups
Input the distances between expanded groups.
